AGGRESSIVE DRIVERS

Dogs grabbed out of cars and thrown into traffic.  Fistfights in the turn lanes.  Gunfire from the cab of a pickup.  These are extreme cases of angry drivers going over the edge.  Your chances of encountering this level of hostility are probably slim.  But angry people are out there, and they are behind the wheels of dangerous machines.  You can’t know who is pushed to the limit, who is ready to take his frustration out using the only means available: his car.  That person may be driving alongside you on your way to work.  He might be in the car ahead of you in line at the drive-thru, or waiting behind you for the same parking space at the mall.

You can be on the receiving end of someone’s hostility, anytime, anyplace.  What are you going to do when you find yourself in a position of defending yourself against a road bully?  Are you going to fight back?  Or are you going to put some space between you and the aggressor?  For example, someone is tailgating you, flashing lights, and gesturing rudely.  You pull over, only to have the other driver shout an obscenity about how you need to keep pace.  What do you do? Do you tear after the vehicle, honking and yelling?  You can’t wait to catch up with him at the next light?
Or do you take a deep breath and wait for the other guy to get far ahead of you?
Be cool and stay calm if you encounter a driver like this. Road rage can lead to deadly consequences.
