The officer had Melissa blow into the breathalyzer and then arrested her. "Then I don't have a choice, Miss Johnson," he said. "I'm going to have to cite you for driving under the influence, in addition to your failure to wear a seat belt, broken tail light, and driving without insurance. There's a good chance your license will be suspended at least until your court date."

Melissa began to cry. What was she going to do now?

"I'm sorry, ma'am," he said. "This is for your safety as well as everyone else's. Please turn around and put your hands behind your back. Melissa Johnson, you are under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you do say can..."

Melissa nodded quietly through her tears, then ducked carefully into the back of the police car with the officer's help, wondering how she would explain this to Andy and wishing she'd taken his advice.
