LANES OF
TRAVEL
There would be fewer fatalities if drivers knew their place on the
road and kept to it! Different terrain requires different types of
roadways, but safe driving is required in all areas.
Divided highways are highways that separate opposing traffic with a physical barrier,
such as a wide grass median (A) or concrete dividers. On a
divided highway, vehicles traveling in the
same direction stay on their side of the road, and do not cross into the lanes of the other side. |

Upon all highways, a vehicle shall be driven upon the right half of
the roadway, except when overtaking and passing another
vehicle.

It is illegal to drive across the median of a divided highway. Do not try to avoid sitting in a traffic jam by U-turning
across the grass (B)!
To keep traffic moving smoothly, choose the lane that best
suits your speed. If you are driving slower than most people
on the road, or if you plan to exit, use the right lane. The
center lane will be the smoothest flowing, and the left lane
should be saved for faster driving and passing.

So many accidents are caused because of frequent and faulty lane
changes. Don't try to get to your destination faster by weaving in
and out of different lanes; you put yourself and others at risk,
just to shave off a few seconds. How many times have you passed
what you thought to be a slow moving vehicle, only to meet up with
the driver again at the next signal? Those seconds are not worth
your car, your life, or the life of another.
